Every house should have a pair of lucky whore shoes hanging over the door...

I ain't even sorry. Not in the slightest.

But would any of you expect me to be? I didn't think so. Many of you would be disappointed if I started telling good jokes. But I would be surprised. Because I don't know any good jokes.

And to anyone who says "But Otter, you're really funny!"* I say, "You promised to stop commenting on my looks!"

Anyway, Let's move right along on to todays subject. I'm feeling better, but this is the last post of the week and I just want to get it over with so I can relax and have diner and play some games and torture my cats.**

Today I want to tell you about something called 'The Horseshoe Theory'. ( you all get the joke...) And no, this isn't the type of theory that belongs on a Thursday. There is no conspiracy involved in this at all. It's just one of those things that make you go 'Hmmmm....'.

This theory involves the political spectrum. All over the world, people imagine the politics of various people as following a straight line. You have your Left, Middle and right.

Your own personal views dictate where you get placed on the spectrum. The convention is to put more liberal people on the left and more conservative on the right. It's like that most places, and we've been doing it for a long time.

Now, left and right aren't the ends of the line. We also have far-left and far-right. These are the extreme believers of their philosophy. Right now in America, we have a lot of politicians who willingly admit that they are either far-left or far-right.

That's fine, as long as they are careful about how far they go. Because past far-left, we have socialism. And beyond far-right we have fascism. And there isn't a person on the left or the right that want to be called wither one of those.

Socialism is what led the bolsheviks to revolt in 1917 and overthrow the tsar. And that led to Stalin and communism.

Fascism led to the groups like the National Socialists***, (Nazis), the National Fascist Party, (NPF founded by il Duce himself, Benito Mussolini), and FET y de las JONS, (Spanish Falangism and Fransisco Franco).

So, of course no modern American politician wants to be associated with those folks.

But here's where it get's interesting. When we really take a close look at the different extremes of the political spectrum, we see that they are both centered around the collective good over the individual.

The political spectrum isn't a straight line, it's a horseshoe. The left and right ends curve in towards each other. So the further you get along your side of the spectrum, the closer you get to your political polar opposite.

I know some of you are shaking your heads. But consider this; the world has only one totally authoritarian government. Only one nation has absolute control over it's people. And that is North Korea. So tell me, is North Korea far-left, or far-right? Did the worlds only true totalitarian government go so far to the left that their socialism became fascism, or did they go so far to the right that their fascism became socialism?

Chew on that one for a while. Next week, I'll have a better one for you to think about.
